New Year, New Phone? Consumers Can Still Get Great Deals

Posted by Scott Bruce on Feb 11, 2021 7:32:28 AM

Here at HYLA Mobile, an Assurant company, we usually expect a flurry of activity from about August through the end of the year as OEMs begin to unveil their new flagship phones. There are promotions around the launches and also for the holiday shopping season. We then see the activity flatten out dramatically after the end of the year as many promotions go away.

Here’s the thing—it is still a very good time to purchase a new phone. First of all, major carriers and OEMs are extending their usual holiday deals into the new year—something that we typically haven’t seen before. Customers should definitely take advantage of this now before the deals expire.

Second, those hungering for the newest and best technology still have an appreciable opportunity whether they prefer iPhones or Android phones. Apple released their latest devices just three months ago and Samsung just introduced their latest smartphones.

Samsung’s latest 5G devices; the Galaxy S21 and S21+, and S21 Ultra; boasts a super high-resolution camera, their fastest processor yet, and improved battery life.

Telecom Carrier Stores are Beginning to Reopen – Now What?

Posted by Scott Bruce on May 28, 2020 8:00:00 AM

As of this writing, the pandemic situation may be starting to look up a little. This has prompted many states to gradually relax their social distancing guidelines, allowing certain businesses – including carrier stores – to reopen.

On its face, this seems like good news for the telecom industry, especially since the vast majority of smartphone sales happen to take place during face-to-face retail transactions. The problem emerges when you consider that even though states and governors are bullish about restarting the economy, the public is understandably wary about returning to in-person commerce.

Customers are hanging onto their phones longer than ever, with the average consumer now waiting about 3 years before trading in their phones. What this means is that when a user finally does trade in their phone, it's hard drive potentially contains more information than ever – information that could be used to steal customer identities or commit other data crimes. Posted by Scott Bruce on Jan 21, 2020 9:00:00 AM

It’s difficult to understand how many smartphones are purchased online versus how many are purchased in brick-and-mortar stores. However, it’s easy to infer based on two other statistics.
